About Us

The Florida Solar Energy Center® (FSEC®), also known as the FSEC Energy Research Center, initially developed the Photovoltaic Certification Portal in 2015 as part of the Broward County Go Solar Florida program This program was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the SunShot Initiative Rooftop Solar Challenge II to increase the use of and access to grid-tied solar energy installations among the state’s residents and businesses.

Although the Go Solar Florida program ended in 2017, FSEC continues to maintain and improve the Photovoltaic Certification Portal.

FSEC was created by the Florida Legislature in 1975 to serve as the state’s energy research institute and to test and certify solar systems. FSEC is administered by the University of Central Florida.
